House of Hope has been established to give children (HIV positive) and their mothers a hopeful future and the chance to live a full, developed life. Both the children and their mothers need constant love, care, and attention. We are devoted to take care of them in a home with loving staff.
Women living at House of Hope are provided with employment .This is so they can earn a decent salary and realize their own worth. They are no longer rejected, but accepted as the honorable women that God created them to be.
Currently, House of Hope is located in a 2-bedroom flat that we are renting for women and children in need of housing. At the moment 13 people live in this flat. Two mothers with both one child and one single lady are working in the company. Next to that there is one fulltime caretaker and all together nine children at the moment. Out of these nine, seven children are orphans and two have their mother living with them.
The children are aged between one and eleven years. The fulltime caretaker stays at home and provides daily care and attention to the children. Next to that, two ladies are coming during the day to work for several hours.
After finding which level of school would be appropriate for the children, we work to place them in a local English standard school, or in a Marathi school if they are older and don’t understand English well enough.
If admission is denied due to their health status, then we provide education at home for the children.
A problem we are currently facing is staff and housing. With 13 people in a two bedroom flat it gets too crowded. The need to admit more children is still there since other orphanages don’t want HIV positive children end even their own families often reject them.
FUTURE PLANS
In the next year we would like to see a total of fifteen children living in a bigger House of Hope with lots of space to play and two more staff committed to take care of them.
The mothers would preferably each have a room in the house with their own children and share the joined kitchen and living room. Orphans will sleep in the same room as the caretakers. Employment will continue to be provided for the mothers. The caretakers will continue to look after all the children in the home while the mothers are working.
In order to accomplish this goal, we will need a bigger home with enough living space for everyone. We believe it is very important that House of Hope continues to operate in a family setting.
